According to Werner (Nobel Prize winner) species do not have to evolve, they adapt to the environment. If the environment regresses, the human species follows. He also states that there are species on this planet that if we let them evolve, they would surpass us.

 

Perhaps we should think that the regression of the species progresses more on the side of the soul than on the material side.
