This installation sounds the alarm on the planet’s runaway overdevelopment and the exorbitant price per square meter of buildable land—a phenomenon that ultimately culminated in the real estate bubble. Subprime mortgage lending alongside prices vastly outpacing the CPI and household incomes rendered mortgages unpayable, leaving banks as the sole beneficiaries of both the properties and the outstanding debt. This unquestionably plunged countless families into severe hardship.
Our response at the time was an installation staged inside an empty swimming pool set up as a living room. The piece tongue-in-cheek suggested living in the water—or inside one’s own pool—as a housing solution for guests and visiting relatives during the summer.

Description:
Soaring unemployment and the collapse of the construction sector—heavily struck by the real estate boom and the subsequent market crash—were among the primary consequences of the 2008 financial crisis. Grounded in this reality, we chose to revisit the installation La seva 2a residència [Their Second Home], adapting it to reflect the shift in times: a new landscape shaped by the indignados protests, widespread social discontent, and general impoverishment.
Our proposal placed a camping tent directly in the sea, reflecting how buying a home had become a luxury reserved for a privileged few, and a second home an unthinkable prospect for most.
We continue to explore and work with water as an artistic medium, precisely because it is not our natural habitat.
